- AWS vs Azure vs Google Cloud for Freshers: Which Cloud Should You Learn First?

In this article
Short answer: for most freshers, AWS is the safest first choice because it has the largest market share and the most job listings. Choose Azure if you are targeting enterprises, banks or companies built around Microsoft products. Choose Google Cloud if you are drawn to data, analytics, AI or Kubernetes-heavy work. The core concepts transfer between all three, so learning one well makes the next much easier.
Students often freeze at this choice and end up learning bits of all three. That is the slowest path. This guide compares the platforms on what matters to a beginner and ends with a simple way to decide.
How big is each cloud?
According to Synergy Research Group, in the first quarter of 2026 AWS held about 28% of the worldwide cloud infrastructure market, Microsoft about 21% and Google Cloud about 14%. All three are large, growing platforms, so none of them is a bad career choice. Market share mainly tells you how many employers you are likely to find for each.
AWS vs Azure vs Google Cloud at a glance
| AWS | Microsoft Azure | Google Cloud (GCP) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Known for | Breadth of services and the largest ecosystem | Integration with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory and enterprise tools | Data analytics, AI/ML and Kubernetes (Google created Kubernetes) |
| Typical employers | Startups, product companies, IT services, enterprises | Large enterprises, BFSI, companies already on Microsoft | Data-driven companies, startups, analytics and AI teams |
| Free start for new accounts | Up to $200 in credits with a 6-month free plan (check current terms) | Free account with starter credit and free services (check current terms) | $300 welcome credit to use over 90 days |
| Entry certification | AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner | Azure Fundamentals | Cloud Digital Leader or Associate Cloud Engineer |
| India presence | Regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad | Regions in Pune, Mumbai and Chennai | Regions in Mumbai and Delhi |
The same concepts, different names
This is why learning one cloud properly is not wasted effort. The building blocks are nearly identical:
| Concept | AWS | Azure | Google Cloud |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virtual machines | EC2 | Virtual Machines | Compute Engine |
| Object storage | S3 | Blob Storage | Cloud Storage |
| Private network | VPC | Virtual Network (VNet) | VPC |
| Identity and access | IAM | Microsoft Entra ID + Azure RBAC | Cloud IAM |
| Serverless functions | Lambda | Azure Functions | Cloud Run functions |
| Managed Kubernetes | EKS | AKS | GKE |
| Managed relational database | RDS | Azure SQL Database | Cloud SQL |
Which cloud should you choose?
- Choose AWS if you want the widest range of openings, or you are aiming for DevOps or cloud engineer roles in startups and product companies.
- Choose Azure if you already work with Windows Server, Active Directory or .NET, or you are targeting large enterprises and banks.
- Choose Google Cloud if your goal is data engineering, analytics, machine learning or Kubernetes-focused roles.
- Not sure? Search current job postings in Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru for the role you want and count which cloud appears most. Let real demand decide.
How to learn your first cloud without wasting money
- Start with the fundamentals: regions and availability zones, compute, storage, networking, identity and pricing models.
- Set a budget alert on day one, and delete resources when you finish practising.
- Build small projects: host a static website, deploy a web app on a virtual machine, then on a managed container service.
- Learn infrastructure as code with Terraform. It works across all three clouds.
- Take the entry certification, then aim for an associate-level exam once you have hands-on practice.
Where cloud skills lead
Cloud is the foundation for several career paths: cloud engineer, DevOps engineer, site reliability engineer, cloud security and data engineering. Learn cloud at TryCatch Classes
TryCatch Classes offers dedicated AWS Training (covering cloud fundamentals, EC2, networking, access control and load balancers, aligned with AWS Cloud Practitioner), Microsoft Azure Training and Google Cloud (GCP) Training. If you want all three plus CI/CD, Docker and Kubernetes, our DevOps Training covers AWS, Azure and Google Cloud in one programme. Classes run at our Borivali West classroom and live online, with a 100% placement guarantee and interview preparation.
Frequently asked questions
Which cloud is easiest for beginners?
All three have similar learning curves. Many beginners find AWS easiest to learn because of the sheer amount of free tutorials, documentation and community help available.
Should I learn more than one cloud?
Learn one cloud deeply first. Once you understand compute, storage, networking and identity on one platform, picking up a second one takes far less time, and multi-cloud skills become a strength later.
Is coding required for cloud jobs?
Entry cloud roles need scripting (Bash or Python), YAML and infrastructure-as-code skills more than application development. DevOps and cloud-native roles reward stronger automation skills.
Can I practise cloud for free?
Yes. All three providers offer free credits or free-tier services for new accounts. Terms change, so read the current offer and always set a budget alert to avoid surprise charges.
